TALLAHASSEE – In the most closely watched governor’s race in the country, Leadership Florida and the Florida Press Association today announce that both Governor Rick Scott and former Governor Charlie Crist have publicly agreed to participate in the “Decision 2014: Before You Vote” debate taking place on October 15 at Broward College’s main campus in Davie, Florida.

The one-hour debate, to be produced by WFOR-TV/CBS4, the Miami-Dade/Broward region’s CBS affiliate, will be broadcast from 7:00-8:00 p.m. EST, through a “Before You Vote” network of television broadcasters in every one of Florida’s 11 media markets. The live debate broadcast also will be simulcast on all Florida Public Radio member stations.

Moderating the debate will be veteran broadcaster Eliott Rodriguez, anchor at CBS4 News, who will direct questions from panelists.

An exciting new element to the debate this year is the addition of a social media panel. Manny Garcia, editor of the Naples Daily News, Bob Gabordi, executive editor of the Tallahassee Democrat, and Jeremy Wallace, political reporter for the Herald-Tribune, will engage Floridians with live commentary throughout the debate using Twitter and Facebook as the primary platforms. They will also provide commentary in the weeks leading up to the debate.

The sponsors for the “Decision 2014: Before You Vote” debate series are Broward College, the Florida Association of Insurance Agents/Trusted Choice, AARP, the Florida League of Cities, the Claude Pepper Foundation, and Florida Credit Unions. Together, these organizations represent millions of Floridians and thousands of businesses and institutions vital to the life of our state.
